Learn Jyotish

The term “Vedic Astrology” is a convenient shorthand, but Jyotish draws from a wider corpus than the four Vedas alone — including classical works by Parāśara, Varāhamihira, and generations of post-Vedic commentators. Qronology does not claim to teach a strictly Vedic system.

Discover the ancient wisdom of Jyotish through clear, readable guides. This hub now separates published pages you can read today from topics that are still being written, so navigation stays honest and useful.

What is Vedic Astrology (Jyotish)?

Vedic astrology, also known as Jyotish (Sanskrit: ΰ€œΰ₯ΰ€―ΰ₯‹ΰ€€ΰ€Ώΰ€·, "science of light"), is an ancient system of astrology that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. Unlike Western astrology, which uses the tropical zodiac aligned with Earth's seasons, Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac aligned with the actual positions of constellations in the sky.

Jyotish encompasses not only birth chart interpretation but also predictive techniques, remedial measures, and a deep philosophical framework rooted in Vedic texts. At Qronology, we combine traditional Jyotish principles with rigorous astronomical calculations (IAU SOFA standards) to provide you with accurate, well-researched content.
